LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

Our provision for children’s development and learning is guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage. Our provision reflects the four overreaching principles for the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.

  • A unique child - Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable and self-assured

  • Positive relationships - Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.

  • Enabling environments - Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and carers.

  • Learning and development - Children develop and learn in different ways. The framework covers the education of all children in the early years, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.

The activities and learning we plan for centres on the following areas as identified in the Early Years Framework.

Prime Areas:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

  • Physical Development

  • Communication and Language

Specific Areas:

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

  • Our  activity outlines for each topic can be found HERE

Communication and language is given high priority, with many planned and impromptu opportunities to build the art of communication, leading to articulate conversation, reading and early writing. We have embraced the program of Squiggle Whilst you Wiggle'. Providing our children with a fun and interactive avenue to build early literacy skills.

Storytelling is a great way to fuel a child’s imagination, however it is also a fantastic way to support children’s understanding and introduce the art of conversational debate.  By carefully selecting a story and asking specific questions children can safely share and develop values and opinions and learn how to articulate these.

We highly value outdoor exploration, offering opportunities to play daily in our well developed outdoor area each day. For this reason we advice children to always have an appropriate coat, not forgetting wellies or sun cream!

Our children are supported in developing their friendships, beginning to share ideas, have opinions and respect the opinions of others working together as they play and explore in all areas.

Imagination is encouraged. Staff respectfully and professionally join children who we see grow in confidence and delight in their role-play building on their problem solving skills as they play.

Spilsby Playgroup promotes diverse attitudes and challenges stereotypes, implementing British Values through; sharing stories reflecting and valuing the diversity of children’s experiences and providing resources and activities that challenge gender, cultural and racial stereotyping, supporting democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and dignity.

With activities that focus on discovery and exploration, no two days are ever the same! Let your child learn more about the world through the use of their senses in a nurturing environment while they play and meet new friends. Our programme facilitates your child to gain confidence, be more in-tune with their personality and develop their learning abilities and talents.

  • Enhance creativity

  • Foster social skills

  • Cultivate problem-solving

  • Build motivation to learn

  • Promote motor skills
